Heike Steinweg

Heike Steinweg is a German portrait photographer, who is best known for her intimate portraits of writers and actors.
In her personal projects she has explored important social issues over the past years. Steinweg often combines portraits with personal statements from the people she has photographed. This participatory method allows her to trace individual relationships beyond a political agenda. “Making the experience of individuals visible for me is also a political process,” As Heike would summarize her work.

Her work has been shown internationally in in solo and group exhibitions in Berlin, New York, Washington DC, Toronto, Israel and other places.

For the last 20 years her portraits have been published in DIE ZEIT, Stern, Spiegel, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, TAZ, Brigitte, Le Monde, L`Observateur, Elle, Madame, De Morgen, The Sunday Times, The Observer, The Guardian and The New York Times among others. Download Tearsheets PDF


Since 2018 she has been a member of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie (German Society for Photography).
